This book was very captivate to me. This is one of the only books that I can swan that I enjoyed reading and I actually paid attention to what the informant had to say. He also calls it a national epidemic during the antebellum, as mob violence dispersed through the south, the north, and across the west into the new frontier as well.



He states that fairs, not blacks were the majority of mob violence victims because of the interest blacks had to slave holders. This makes complete sense. Why would slave owners want to lynch all or most or even a few of their working force? That would not be a very wise move. However when the abolition of slavery happened, as well as, social, economic and political changes began, a drastic amplify in mob violence occurred. Southern whites that were accustomed to white supremacy could not accept the new status of blacks creation legally free and resorted to mob violence to sustain the racial hierarchy.
