Maya Angelous Africa written in 1975 describes Africa being destroyed by Europeans who took the race of Africa into slavery. Personification and rhythm enhance both the imagery and greenback of the meter. The continent of Africa is personified to create smart images and the rhythmical patterns contribute to the ever-changing tone from pleasant to sharp to contemplative. The message in this poesy is remember the suffering and use the knowledge to create a better future without oppression because of the color of their skin.
Africa is personified to create vivid imagery and to give human emotions to a continent. Simultaneously, the entire poem is a metaphor of Africa as a beautiful woman. Africa is personified as a woman with deserts her hair / golden her feet / mountains her breasts / cardinal Niles her tears (3, 6). The description creates lifelike images of the land. The continent is personified as a mother in course of studys 13-14 when the Europeans took her young daughter / sold her conceptive sons. Here the imagery is so vivid you can roughly see some stranger taking children from their mother. In line 21, Africa screams loud and vain. This personification and onomatopoeia suggest that the continent was devastated when people were interpreted from their homeland.

The stanzas buzz off three different tones through the rhythms of the meters. The tone moves from pleasant to unpleasant to contemplative.
