In Othello, green-eyed monster is what appears to destroy him. Othello takes the word of an alleged trust man, that his youthful bride has deceived him. Betrayal and manipulation lie at the heart of Othello and the green-eyed monster destroys them all.

It was Iagos own jealousy that put the wheels in motion for Othellos demise. Iago was angered at Othello for liberation him up for a promotion of Lieutenant. Until the moment Othello kills Desdemona in a jealous rage he sees nothing but this madness that has over taken him.
